Pastors Forum Brings Board Effectiveness Expert to Campus
On Monday, March 9, 2020 the Resource Center for Pastoral Leadership at SNU (RCPL) is presenting the Spring Pastors Forum on the campus of SNU – and live streamed – featuring Kent Stroman.
From 9:00AM to noon CST, Stroman will address Why Your Board Doesn’t Work…and How to Fix It, from his new book, The Intentional Board.
Kent has served on numerous boards and leads board retreats throughout the country. He is a partner in the prestigious Alliance for Board Effectiveness, which is committed to excellence in governance. Kent’s observation of accidental boards over the years has led to his passion for intentionality in board service and governance. Additionally, he will interweave his fund-raising expertise into his presentation. Kent is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), BoardSource-trained governance consultant, Sarkeys Foundation-approved retreat facilitator, and serves as an adjunct consultant for the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits.
Additionally, a bonus session is being offered in the afternoon, from 1:30 – 2:30PM CST.
Shepherd’s Fold Ministries Director, Dr. Brent Van Hook’s session, titled Your Best 8,000 Days!, will focus on Clergy Retirement Years: Long-Term Well-Being.
The first ever research project of retired ministers across multiple denominations was completed in 2019, commissioned by Shepherd’s Fold Ministries. The project learned the most impactful issues related to ministers age 67+ related to social, spiritual, physical, and financial health.
Regardless of your age or ministry status, this session can help you identify the key elements of long-term well-being and ministry. Dr. Van Hook will present a summary of the project findings plus new programs being developed to address these issues. Americans live an average of 22 years, or 8,000 days, in their “retirement years”. Address the key elements of long-term well-being in your life and ministry and let your next 8,000 days be your best 8,000 days!
Register now and get both sessions for the low cost of $20 per person. Life-Long Learning credits for both sessions will be available for Nazarene clergy. Attend the presentation on campus, or at a host site (see host site list when you register) or register for access to the live stream on your personal computer or other viewing device.

SNU’S Doctor of Education in Administration and Leadership Goes Online!
This summer, SNU’s Doctor of Education in Administration and Leadership (DEAL) will launch its fourth cohort – with the distinction of being online! Mirroring the same format as the face to face program, with an embedded dissertation to be completed by the end of the 32-month program, this online cohort begins with a weekend of orientation and start of two courses, July 10-12, 2020. Distinctive to SNU’s DEAL program, each cohort has a Dissertation Director working with students individually on the development of the topic and writing progress of their dissertations. Students will benefit greatly from the excellent online courses, as well as the support, encouragement and direction of their Dissertation Director.
Dr. Stephoni Case, program director, said, “The online offering of DEAL will be a strong and positive opportunity for those who want to earn a terminal degree and prefer to do coursework in an online format. The instructors and dissertation support will still reflect the highest of standards included in our face-to-face doctoral program.” Dr. Case added, “I am thankful for the opportunity to extend the reach of SNU DEAL to even more learners.”
